Play rubber twist | Children's birthday

Rubber twist used to be a classic game in schoolyards, on the street (provided there was little traffic) and on the patio. Today, the game is regaining the attention it deserves.

The basic rules of the classic rubber twist

Because rubber band twisting not only promotes dexterity, it also provides exercise. For rubber band twisting, you only need a long rubber band (trouser elastic), which should be about three meters long.

You can play the game alone (with two chairs), but it's even better with two other players. There's no limit to the number of players, and if there are more players, the wait time before you can jump will just be longer.

First, two players stand opposite each other and stretch the rubber band around their ankles. The third player is then allowed to jump according to a certain pattern until he makes a mistake. If he survives the round, the rubber band is pulled up a little, increasing the level of difficulty. If he makes a mistake, it is the next child's turn.

Rubber twist: the mistakes

No game without rules. Mistakes in rubber twist should be discussed with all players beforehand so that everyone knows what is allowed and what is not. In general, the rubber should not be touched during rubber twist unless the jump requires jumping directly onto it. Even if the sequence of jumps is not carried out correctly, this can be considered a mistake. Getting tangled up or stuck on something is also considered a mistake in rubber twist.

A rhyme and a jumping variation for rubber twist

There are countless different ways to jump with the rubber band, so only one of them will be described in detail here. The verse "Hau-Ruck-Donald-Duck-Micky-Mouse-In-Out" is well-known and a good start to the adventure of rubber band jumping. Every word in the above verse is a jump. Of course, the children can also invent the different ways to jump with the rubber band themselves, but it is good to at least have a guideline.

In this jumping variant of the rubber twist, the jumper stands with his feet parallel to the stretched rubber bands and jumps so that the rubber band that is further away from him is exactly between his feet. In this case, we assume that it would be the left rubber band when viewed from above. When he jerks, he jumps to the other, right rubber band - also so that it is between his feet.

Of course he is not allowed to touch it. In this jumping variant of the jump rope, the word Donald means a jump directly into the middle, with the feet next to each other. When he says Duck he now jumps completely out to the right so that he is back in his starting position. Mickey brings him back to the position he was in with Duck, Mouse is the same as Hit. The word In corresponds to Donald, Out again to the starting position.

More rhymes and jump variations

Also popular are lyrics from rhymes such as: At Müller's it burned-burned-burned or "Science has determined" (texts for both are available online). Jumping variations for rubber band twist that have not been mentioned above can be: placing the feet to the left and right of the rubber bands, i.e. doing a straddle over the rubber bands, or landing with only one foot on one of the rubber bands, i.e. with one foot still outside and one on the rubber band.

Of course, you can also jump on the rubber bands with both feet, i.e. with your legs spread, each foot on one of the rubber bands. If you're creative, you'll soon have a whole repertoire of jumping variations for rubber band twist. All you need is the spring sun - and you can start twisting.
