Window Color is a popular activity for children - it is important that children are supervised and follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure they do not swallow any paint or get it in their eyes.

But what do you need, how exactly do you do it and how does the whole thing become transparent?

1. Materials and tools

To paint with Window Color you need

Window Color Colors: These colors are available in small bottles with a thin nozzle, which makes precise application easier. There are various brands, e.g. C. Kreul, Marabu or Rayher.

Transparent Folie: This is used as a work surface. Special window color films or simple laminating films work well.

Templates: Template motifs on paper that are placed under the transparent film to trace the shape.

Contour color: This paint is thicker and is used to outline the design. It prevents the paint applied later from running.

Brushes or applicators (optional): For smoothing or spreading the paint.

Toothpick / Needle: To remove air bubbles in the paint.

2. Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Select a template: Choose a template that you want to use as a window sticker. This can be a simple picture, a coloring page or a detailed drawing.

Step 2: Preparing the work surface: Place the template under a transparent film so that it is clearly visible. You can fix the film with adhesive tape so that it does not slip.

Step 3: Draw outlines: Use the outline paint to trace the outline of the image. Hold the bottle vertically and apply even pressure. Allow the outline paint to dry completely, which may take a few hours. Otherwise, everything will smear or blur with the next step when filling in the areas.

Step 4: Fill in the areas: Start by painting the individual areas of the motif with the different Window Color colors. Apply the paint directly from the bottle and fill in the areas evenly. Make sure that the paint fills the edges of the contours well.

Step 5: Let the paint dry: Allow the painting to dry completely. This may take between 12 and 24 hours, depending on the thickness of the paint layers applied and the humidity.

3. Application on the window

Peel the finished image from the foil: After drying, the image is elastic and can be carefully peeled off the foil.

Attach the picture to the window: Gently press the window picture onto the clean glass pane so that it adheres. The static cling and the slightly sticky back of the dried paint ensure that the picture sticks well to the window.

Why does Window Color become transparent?

Window Color consists of a special formula that becomes transparent when it dries. The colors are typically based on a mixture of polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and color pigments.

The PVA is a synthetic resin solution that hardens when the water evaporates (the bottle's contents are also water) and forms a flexible, transparent surface. This gives the colors a shiny and transparent effect that lets light through, making them particularly luminous when sunlight shines through.

The Top 10 Questions about Window Color

The most common questions about window color often include a number of practical and fundamental aspects. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that interested parties typically have:

What is Window Color? Window Color is a type of peelable window paint used to decorate glass surfaces. It comes in liquid form and dries to a smooth, easily peelable surface.

On which surfaces can Window Color be used?  Mainly on glass surfaces such as windows, mirrors and glass bottles; some products also stick to other smooth surfaces such as tiles or plastic. But remember that the background should be light and without a pattern, otherwise the image will not be shown to its best advantage. It is not called a "WINDOW image" for nothing.

How long does it take for Window Color to dry? Drying time may vary, but is usually between 24 and 48 hours, depending on the thickness of the paint application and the environmental conditions.

How do you remove window color from glass? The motifs can be easily peeled off. Any residue can be removed with hot water and soap or a glass cleaner.

Do Window Color motifs fade over time? With long-term exposure, the colors may fade slightly due to sunlight. However, there are special UV-resistant colors that are better able to resist color loss.

Can you mix Window Color paints? Yes, different colors can be mixed together to create new shades. This allows for creative freedom in design.

Are Window Color motifs weatherproof? They are designed for indoor use and direct exposure to the elements such as rain or frost can damage them. If used outdoors, they should be protected from direct exposure to the elements.
