Musical chairs is a classic children's game for indoors and outdoors. All you need is a few chairs (or newspaper), a cassette recorder or CD player and you're ready to go.

The number of players is actually unlimited, but small rooms obviously limit the number of players considerably. Instead of setting up chairs, you could simply use newspaper so that all the birthday guests can play.
Musical Chairs can be played with both kindergarten children and older children, although it is recommended to have fewer players with younger children so that it doesn't get too boring for those who are eliminated.
Journey to Jerusalem, how it's played
In the musical chairs, also known as the chair dance, chairs are first placed in a circle (seats facing outwards) or in a row with the backs of the chairs facing each other. Important: Always use one chair less than the number of players. The game leader plays music and the children start running around the chairs.
At some point the leader stops the music and every child has to try to get a seat. Anyone who is left over and has not found a seat is eliminated. Now Musical Chairs continues. A chair is removed, the music is turned back on and the competition for a seat is repeated. Rounds are played until there is a winner at the end.
Variations and tips for The Journey to Jerusalem
In an emergency, you can use old newspapers instead of chairs. The children have to jump on them after the music stops. This version of Musical Chairs saves space and is suitable for a large number of players - and is also an alternative for the garden.
To make it easier for children to be eliminated, it is a good idea to use the eliminated child as the leader for the next round, so that the child can both turn the music on and off!
