Homemade lanterns have their own special charm. In summer they shimmer on the terrace in warm nights, in autumn and winter they decorate our home or a party table, even when there is no wind. Making lanterns is therefore a craft idea for children and parents in every season.
Make lanterns as decoration
Of course, homemade lanterns also look great as decorations in front of the door in autumn and winter, for example at the house entrance. But the best thing is that it is very easy to make a lantern yourself, so that even children can have a lot of fun and achieve impressive results without much prior knowledge. If that isn't motivation.

Homemade lanterns for autumn
To make your own autumn lantern, you first need a suitable glass for the candle. If you want a larger lantern, you can use mason jars.
These, of course, come in different sizes. A jam jar can also be useful.
It always looks nice when you have more than just one Don't use a homemade lantern for decoration, but place at least three of the same kind on the table or on the windowsill. Tea lights or - depending on the size of the glass - slightly thicker pillar candles are suitable as candles.
For the autumn glass you need colorful leaves from maple trees etc. These should be dried a few days beforehand. You can then tie them decoratively around the glass with a simple cord.
But be careful: Please make sure that the dry leaves cannot come into contact with the candle flame.
Of course, you can also immortalize any other season on the glass in this way. Stars made of cardboard in winter, dried leaves and herbs in spring and summer. The good thing about it is that a homemade lantern like this costs almost nothing!
Winter – Make your own lanterns with wallpaper paste
Of course, you also need a candle and a glass for this. You also need wallpaper paste and tracing paper. Small glasses that you can then arrange in groups, for example on a Christmas tray, also look nice with the wallpaper paste method.
Winter motifs such as frost flowers, stars or fir trees are cut out of the tracing paper for the homemade lantern. These are then glued to the glass separately or overlapping (it's nice if you only cut out stars or frost flowers, for example) using wallpaper paste.
Very small children can also simply tear strips or pieces out of the paper. Perhaps you should decide beforehand on a color that suits Christmas. And if you want it to be colorful, then it's an all-season lantern!
Lanterns from One Thousand and One Nights
If you don't want to make your lantern out of glass, you can also use parchment paper. However, this is a bit too difficult with very small children. You will need a beer mat, colorful construction paper strips, parchment paper and glitter stones. And of course scissors, glue and tea lights.
