What we can learn from children

We teach and raise our children according to our ideas. But what would happen if we, the adults, learned from children? Would a child's perspective be an advantage, even in everyday working life?

“I’m going to be a superstar.” “I want to be an astronaut.”

Children have imagination. But they usually tackle things even when they seem unrealistic.

In any case, they are doing something. They are practicing doing favors for others and studying hard to achieve their goals, at least for the moment.

Some of them, however, put their early childhood ideas into practice on a permanent basis. Adults, on the other hand, see the problems and obstacles first.

So are there things that children have an advantage over us and that we can (re-)learn?

Adults can certainly learn something from children's openness. Little ones not only look at their world with different eyes, they often also see it in a more holistic way.

Childlike innocence and creativity

For example, they paint pictures that tell entire stories. These can be simple cloud formations or faces. They don't just see the obvious, but look at the subjects from different perspectives.

When you look at a famous painting, for example by Picasso, what can you see?

All children are artists in some way. They are creative, always making things, drawing imaginary figures and inventing new things. They don't just use objects for their intended purpose, but use their imagination to make completely new products out of them.

Children are also extremely creative when it comes to creating new words. Perhaps they are also better copywriters?

But today's children are also digitally savvy. They can find their way around tablets or smartphones before they have even learned to read or write.

You don't know fear or insurmountable obstacles. You also don't worry about making mistakes. At least not yet. This means you learn intuitively and quickly.

Children are honest and direct

And children have another quality that adults have partly lost. They are honest and direct. If a child sees a big belly, they will probably say straight out: "You have a big belly."

This statement is certainly not meant to be offensive. It is simply an observation. However, if the little ones say something really nice, adults often do not take it seriously or pay attention to it. The reason: the adults' perspectives have sometimes changed a lot.

Everything goes better with a smile

But the most important thing that many adults have forgotten is how to laugh. Scientists have found that children laugh about 400 times a day. Adults, on the other hand, laugh on average between 15 and 20 times a day. Who is happier?

Because if you laugh often, you spread a good mood. And this would certainly improve your own perspective and the working atmosphere, as well as boost your own performance.
