Germany has a long and complex history, including the Holy Roman Empire, the German Empire, the Weimar Republic, Nazi Germany, and its division during the Cold War into East and West Germany. The country was reunified in 1990 after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.  The country is famous for its beer culture and the annual Oktoberfest, one of the world’s largest festivals, held in Munich. The tradition of Christmas markets originated in Germany, with the Dresden Striezelmarkt being one of the oldest, dating back to 1434.  Germany also has numerous attractions, ranging from historical sites like the Brandenburg Gate and Cologne Cathedral to natural wonders like the Black Forest and the Bavarian Alps.
