From the Sumerians of Mesopotamia, credited with creating the world’s first written language, to the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, the region has long been a tapestry of cultural and scientific advancement. The Islamic Golden Age, between the 8th and 14th centuries, marked a period of remarkable intellectual achievements across the Middle East, with Baghdad and Damascus being principal centres of learning.

Today, the Middle East is a region with a multifaceted tapestry of socio-political scenarios. The oil and natural gas reserves continue to be pivotal for the global economy, securing the region’s strategic economic significance. Geopolitical interests, particularly of global superpowers, intertwine with local issues to influence Middle Eastern dynamics. Governance in the region varies from theocratic regimes, as in Iran, to monarchies, such as Saudi Arabia, and nascent democracies with varying degrees of stability.
